The DPW/Highway Division continues to work throughout Town with staff and hired contractors to push back snow banks/intersections, to widen roads and to clear sidewalks in each section of Town. There are 230 miles of road, over 600 roads with approx. 1,200 intersections/corners within Town.
Due to the frequency of storms, significant amount of snow fall we have received, this process gets interrupted and restarts with every new storm.
Snow removal has commenced in sections of Town with staff and hired equipment and is expected to occur over the next few days as conditions allow. This process may occur overnight and during the day depending on the location. The initial focus is Chelmsford Center, Vinal Square and main road intersections.
When widening roads, snow may be pushed into resident’s driveways. We have plows following our loaders and hired loaders to clear snow from driveways (approx. 12,000). There may be a temporary inconvenience as the plows may be behind the equipment widening the roads.
Sidewalks are being cleared with our two machines in accordance with our clearing policy, but due to the amount of snow and the frequency of the storms, the process is behind. The machines are working two shifts in an effort to remove the snow from the sidewalks.
The DPW/Highway Division thanks you for your patience.
