*ATTENTION* Please be advised that due to Governor Baker's emergency declaration made on March 20, 2020, and due to the current coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, all smoke detector and carbon monoxide inspections may be deferred for up to ninety (90) days after the State of Emergency has been lifted. Governor Baker's order states that due to the state of emergency, the BUYER, and not the seller is responsible for the completion of this legally required inspection. RESIDENTIAL BUYERS MUST APPLY FOR INSPECTION THROUGH THE FIRE DEPARTMENT PERMITTING SITE. Please contact the Fire Prevention Office for further information.

The mission of the Chelmsford Fire Department Fire Prevention Office is to help ensure a community that is free from fire hazards through a combination of education, inspections, and enforcement actions. The Fire Prevention Office works cooperatively with residents and other stakeholders in order to create an environment where fire safety is a primary concern for all. The fire prevention office is the permitting authority for flammable and combustible materials storage and sprinkler and fire alarm plan reviews among other items
