My name is Shawn Mok and I am a sophomore at The George Washington University School of Business. I plan on majoring in International Business and minoring in Organizational Studies. I decided to attend GW because of its unique geographical location - a block from the State Department, White House, World Bank, and International Monetary Fund. During my second semester at GW, I visited various embassies around D.C. learning about their international affairs, and interned at the World Affairs Council of D.C. for my Political Science class. At GW, I am a member of the Alpha-Eta Chapter of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity.
When I first joined the Town Clerk's Office in the summer of 2012, I thought that the time spent with them was going to be just for experience purposes that I would put on a resume, but it quickly proved to be much more than that. Because I was the first student to have ever interned in the Office, a program did not exist like it does today.
Working for the Chelmsford Town Clerk's Office has been one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever had. Not only was I able to give back to my community, but I was able to learn from my experiences. While working in a collaborative setting, I gained a better understanding of how high functioning, diverse, versatile, and successful teams work, and as a business student that is an invaluable skill to have. Also working with the Clerk's Office really helped me understand that simplicity and clarity are crucial in success. Since the Clerk's Office deals with day to day issues such as voter registration for example, forms and guidelines must be clear cut and easily understandable. After reviewing these new forms that were used in this office, it was clear that a large effort on the Clerks part had been put into place, and that can be seen in the increase in voter registration and turnout in the last few elections. And lastly, quality customer service is something that is imperative and exemplified every time a constituent calls or walks into the Clerk’s Office.
I truly believe everything about this office, from the people themselves to the commitment and passion they have for the Town of Chelmsford is both inspiring and commendable, making it unparalleled to any other Clerk's Office or Town Department in Chelmsford.
I graduated from Bishop Guertin High School in Nashua, New Hampshire in 2012.
Fun Fact: During my first semester at GW, I interned on Capitol Hill for former Senator Scott P. Brown!
