- Make reservation a day ahead. For senior citizens who need to go food shopping and other transportation needs within Chelmsford. Transportation to medical appointments within Chelmsford and into Lowell only, must be made a week ahead. Within town, $1.00 each way. Medical trips to Lowell, $1.50 each way.
CHELMSFORD ADULT DAY CARE PROGRAM
- If you know an elder who is experiencing isolation, dementia, depression, or insufficient mental stimulation, please consider the Chelmsford Adult Social Day Program. We provide a supervised, caring atmosphere Monday through Friday. Our "No-Fail" program of activities builds confidence and self-esteem. COMPANION-RESPITE CARE
- This service, available for Chelmsford and Westford residents, provides supervisory care in the home to isolated or convalescent elders or disabled people, to allow the caretaker a time of rest. It is available days, evenings, overnights and weekends, on a temporary or permanent basis. For more information, call or see Patty Keane at the Senior Center, 978-251-8491.
COMPUTER ACCESS
- Six computers are available, with Windows 98 and Internet access. Call the Senior Center at 978-251-0533 to schedule time on the computer and for information regarding classes. Assistance in using the computer can be made available. A Computer Users Group meeting for seniors is held monthly at the Senior Center. For information about these meetings, call the Senior Center, 978-251-0533.
CONGREGATE LUNCH
- Monday through Friday 11:15- 12:30. Meet your friends and make new ones as you join us for a delicious and nutritious meal. The food is prepared and cooked at the Senior Center and served buffet style in our bright and sunny dining hall.
- For all residents over 60 years of age. Contribution: $2.50. Reservations should be made up to 10 AM of the day you plan to eat at the Center. Call 978-251-0533.
ELDER CARE ADVISORS - How can an Elder Care Advisor help me?
An Elder Care Advisor will visit your home to assist with planning and provide an assessment, recommendations & resources to meet your unique needs. The Advisor will be available for short-term follow-up to be sure your needs have been met. Thanks to the new Lifetime Elder Care Advice program, assessment, advice and referral services are absolutely FREE to all elders and their family members in the Lifetime service area. FUEL ASSISTANCE
- Assist with the processing of applications for financial aid in the payment of fuel bills (Nov. to Apr.).
- CITIZENS ENERGY: Citizens Energy can help with a delivery of half price heating oil. Call 1-877-563-4645 or your local fuel assistance agency. If you are over 65 years old, or if someone you know is having a hard time heating their home, help is only a phone call away.
INTER GENERATIONAL PROGRAMS
- The Senior Center is proud to be a participant in programs designed to promote closer relationships and better understanding among community members of all ages.
LIBRARY
- Well stocked library where books in regular and large print, video and audio tapes and magazines are available.
MEALS ON WHEELS
- Five days a week. Provides home delivered meals to those who are homebound. Homebound seniors can have a well balanced meal delivered; the same menu is served at the Senior Center and described in the Senior Messenger. Contribution is $2.50. - Our volunteer drivers will carry the meal into your kitchen or hand it to you at the door, whichever you prefer.

NEWSLETTER
- The Chelmsford Senior Center Messenger is mailed monthly, free, to all senior citizens in town, thanks to funding from the Friends of the Senior Center, Inc. For information about subscriptions or address changes, call the Senior Center, 1- 978-251-0533.
OUTREACH
- Outreach staff do home visits, check on seniors in the hospitals, provide information and referrals and respond to emergency situations. For more information, please call 978-251-0533 during business hours.
Pharmacy Advantage Prescription Drug Plan. -- Massachusetts Residents. Effective April 1, 2001, the Executive Office of Elder Affairs will implement a new prescription drug insurance plan for Massachusetts residents over the age of 65 and also low income disabled residents under the age of 65. It will provide eligible residents with an option for affordable prescription drug insurance. The Plan is open to all residents regardless of income. Those who choose to participate in the program will pay premiums, deductibles and co-payments on a graduated rate based on gross household income, and the Commonwealth will pay the premiums and deductibles for determined low income enrollees. Call 1-800-AGE-INFO to obtain an application. For those presently enrolled in the Senior Pharmacy Program or the Pharmacy Program Plus, you are only guaranteed eligibility and must take the necessary action to indicate your wish to join the new plan by completing the required application.
SENIOR TAX REBATE PROGRAM
- Enables seniors to work 74 hours of municipal service and receive a $500 rebate on their tax bill. There is no 'means' test, but the senior must be a town resident, over 60 years of age and and pay taxes on their home. Applications are available at the Senior Center.
SHINE (SERVING HEALTH NEEDS OF ELDERS)
- SHINE is a health benefits counseling program sponsored by the Council on Aging and provides a health benefit counselor who has been trained and certified by Elder Affairs. The purpose of the program is to ensure that elders have access to accurate, unbiased information regarding health insurance. Appointments can be made with the counselor by calling the Senior Center at 251-0533.
TAX ASSISTANCE
Tax-aide counselors from the program sponsored by the AARP will be available at the Senior Center during the tax season. Call the Senior Center 251-0533 for schedule information and a list of the information you should bring with you.
TREASURE SHOP
- Staffed by volunteers, the Treasure Shop offers a wide selection of low cost quality items. The selection changes frequently as popular items are discovered and new favorites are donated. Open Monday through Friday from 9:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.
TRIPS
- Researched, planned and organized by our trip committee, there are both day trips and overnight excursions to interesting and exciting places.
